Smith-Root is the world’s leader in fisheries conservation technology. With over half a century of industry experience, they’re a respected member of the aquatic resource conservation community. They supply fish researchers, managers and hatchery personnel with quality fisheries sampling technologies to aid in fish restoration and recovery operations in various aquatic settings.

Biomeme and Smith-Root have partnered to create a one-of-its-kind environmental DNA (eDNA) sampling system aimed at providing on-site DNA detection for fisheries surveys. As a partner through our Developer Program, Smith-Root is pairing their new DNA sampling backpack with our device to achieve a complete DNA sampling and detection system. Fisheries scientists are now able to detect invasive species and screen for fish pathogens in just a matter of minutes with our portable diagnostic technology.

Our patented DNA testing platform and personalized data portal allows fisheries scientists to map species detection in real-time, optimizing their time out in the field. This approach has the potential to increase the efficiency of fisheries survey efforts by using eDNA to pre-screen lakes and streams of interest prior to using more intensive surveying methods. Biomeme is excited to partner with Smith-Root in bringing our innovative technology to fisheries researchers across the world. We debuted our collaboration at the 146th American Fisheries Society Annual Meeting in Kansas City from August 21-25, 2016. We also presented our new technology at the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies 106th Annual Meeting from September 11-14, 2016.
