This opening is for a Laboratory Administrative Assistant. In this position you are are responsible for assisting with the various clerical tasks required with receiving, processing, reporting, and delivering laboratory test results and other lab reports as they are completed in this department. Exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, professionalism and work ethic, along with the ability to identify opportunities for departmental improvement are key components of this role. This individual must be diligent and able to pick up concepts quickly. The ideal candidate will be able to handle unexpected situations and exercise independent thought, but also promote an environment in which the Laboratory staff can work together cooperatively toward objectives. This position will report directly to the Laboratory Manager.

– 2+ years of direct experience preferred
– Ability to manage logistics of all aspects of laboratory test orders, from sample receipt to result delivery
– Demonstrates exceptional customer service

– Strong communication skills 
– Comfortable with ambiguity and complexity 
– Ability to excel in a fast-paced, start-up environment
– Attention to detail and ability to multitask
– Have good communication via phone and email
–  Computer proficiency and documentation skills

– Responsible for the accurate processing of patient specimens including receipt and data entry into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
– Ensure proper and complete patient identification on requisitions and specimens
– Appropriately label and prepare specimens for laboratory analysis
– Perform clerical duties necessary to process specimens including, but not limited to scanning and filing paperwork
– Determine specimen suitability for analysis and resolve any discrepancies or issues while processing specimens
– Data entry between laboratory systems
– Report final test results to authorized persons, including state health agency
– File and/or retrieve lab copies of patient test reports in cabinet files and/or LIMS
– Maintain confidentiality of all patient and laboratory information
– Work closely with lab staff to ensure timely processing of specimens
– Other duties will include answering the phone, processing orders and assisting the laboratory manager
– Make pertinent observations in regard to department needs and offers suggestions
– Billing/invoicing experience a plus
